Lacrosse Camps
Lorne Smith is one of the best clinicians I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Whether it's my kids coming back from his camps, having him come facilitate a team practice, or even having the opportunity to have him run a simple drill, the postive impact on my players over the last 8 years has been direct and immediate. I can pinpoint the change in our 2011 State Championship season to a drill Lorne set-up for us and ran on our Spring trip to San Francisco. Best 40 minutes we've ever invested. Thanks Lorne!

Lorne's camps are where I first learned how to actually play the game of lacrosse. Nine years ago in Oregon there were little to no opportunities where you would get this kind of quality lacrosse teaching while having the most fun week of your summer. I credit so much of my early success in High School to the experience and teaching I got personally from Lorne and from the coaching staff there. There are not many role models other than Lorne that I can accredit where I learned the game of lacrosse from. I really want to go back to summer camp, I could still learn a bunch from one of his shooting demos. Go to this camp!

Having come from California, I was at a disadvantage because I didn't grow up playing lacrosse, unlike the kids from the East Coast who were born with sticks in their hands. Lorne's camps helped me become a smarter attackmen in so many different ways: transition, settled offensive situations, dodging, stick protection, and most importantly for me, shooting. Coaches will often compliment me on my knowledge of the game, and I owe a lot of this to Lorne's teaching. In addition, I took shooting lessons from Lorne which eventually helped me stand out at recruiting camps. All this aside, if there was one thing I remember about Lorne's camps, it was that they were fun and I always felt like a better player after his camps ended.

"Lorne —
I just wanted to thank you personally for all the great camps that my son Ramond has attended with you over the years — and will continue to attend for the next few years for sure! Ray has been to lacrosse camps hosted by many different groups over the past 5 years, but he has always considered the quality level of your coaches to be the absolute best."

Hi Lorne,
I just wanted to let you know how much the boys are enjoying this camp. My son, Austin K., is there with a couple friends, Matt and Austin S, and they all think this is one of if not the best camp they have ever taken. Austin told me last night that he will be ready to do the overnight camp next year! Austin introduced lacrosse to Matt this spring and he now thinks that he will be playing for the Crusaders next year. That is positive feedback I wanted to make sure you are aware of. Thanks for all of the effort you and your team put into the camp.

Dear Lorne,
Thanks again for another great camp. Michael and the other boys all had a really good time and ever since then, Michael hasn't gone a day without practicing lacrosse. . . . so something at camp really inspired him. As a parent, I really appreciate your professionalism and the way that the other coaches remembered Michael from past years.

Dear Lorne —
I just picked my kid up from Eugene, OR camp held at the U of O. He had a terrific time! He thought that you and all the other coaches, the Portland Lumberjack players (especially Danny), and Joe (U of O coach) from Bigfoot, were incredible. He will never forget his introduction to Lacrosse through this camp. I believe this will launch a new player to a dedicated young man. Our family can't thank you enough for your part in his experience. Keep up the good work and we'll see you next year!

Hey Lorne,
Yeah, well, the cell phone just rang, and boy, YOU and your crew are at the top of the ratings charts!! Cody had a blast, feels as though he learned "TONS and is DEFINITELY coming back next year."

Lacrosse Coaches Clinics
Last night I attended a great coaching session put on by Warrior Lacrosse and led by Lorne Smith, Head Coach Stanford Men's Lacrosse, Princeton '99, 3x All-American, 3x NCAA National Champion, MLL LA Riptide, National Director Warrior PCX Camps. What a great event! Forty-three coaches, from many different East Bay clubs, were presented with a coherent, organized talk by Lorne.
The session started with small group situations (e.g., 2v2), alternating between offensive objectives and defensive responses. Lorne worked all the way up to 6v6, then turned to uneven situations, from 2v1 all the way up to 6 v 2-5. Throughout the evening, there was an ongoing emphasis on the who, what, where, when, and why of off ball movement, both on offense and defense. I certainly learned a lot, but more interesting to me was that many of the top coaches from the top youth programs in NorCal were in attendance and taking copious notes.
Lorne and Warrior Lacrosse are presenting two more of these sessions. I'd encourage any youth coach to find the time to attend one of these remaining sessions.
